Tiles (Absolute Values)

The tile view displays the absolute values of flexion/extension at address, top and impact. This is great for a quick view of what the wrists are doing and checking if you are adding wrist extension/flexion during the putting stroke.

Address – Extension at address, 21 deg.

Top – Slightly decreased extension, 20 deg.

Impact – ​Slight increase in extension at impact

The graph view displays the changes in wrist angles compared to address position (address is always zero). This is great for exploring a more detailed view of what the wrists are doing both before and after impact.

The player in this sample data had very little wrist movement during the backswing and extension after impact (more negative).

Tiles (Absolute Values)

The tile view displays the absolute values of ulnar/radial deviation at address, top and impact.

If the player is changing ulnar/radial deviation during putting stroke, his putter might move off the intended clubpath. For instance, more ulnar deviation (unhinging) will result in more toe strikes on the clubface, since the putter will move inside the path.

Address – Slightly unhinged at address, -8 deg.

Top – Slightly more unhinged at the top -10 deg.

Impact – Return to address position, -8

The graph view displays the changes in wrist angles compared to address position (address is always zero). This is great for exploring a more detailed view of what the wrists are doing both before and after impact.

The player has a little bit of unhinging of the wrist during his backswing (more ulnar deviation, minus sign), but manages to return to the same amount as his address position  before impact.

HackMotion sensor contains gyroscope which measures rotation of the lead wrist in global coordinate system. In contrast, local coordinate system measures wrist to elbow relationship.

This rotation metric can also be called “absolute rotation” as opposed to “relative rotation” of the wrist. So a body turn which rotates the wrist away from the address position will also influence the rotation and get measured.

HackMotion sensor measures rotation of the wrist in global coordinate system, taking the address position as its reference (address is always zero) and measuring the rotation relative to it.

The graph view displays the change in the wrist angles compared to address position, great for exploring a detailed view of what the wrists are doing. There is almost always some rotation towards open position during the backswing and more closed position during the downswing.

The player here rotates 6 degrees open during his backswing (minus sign) and is rotating in closed (towards positive direction), but has not rotated fully at impact (1 degree difference with address)

Ratio – Backswing / Downswing ratio

Putting stroke tempo is calculated as the ratio of backswing / downswing. The slower the backswing compared to downswing the higher the ratio. The quicker the downswing, the higher the tempo. Swing tempo is very important for putting consistency.  Usually the best putters have a ratio close to 2.0.

The best putters in the world have very consistent timing regardless of the length of the putt. Improving the tempo improves distance control and consistency.

The top of the backswing is identified when the hands are changing direction.
