Understanding Wrist Graphs by Brian Manzella

Brian Manzella (Golf Digest Top50) explains how to read and interpret Hackmotion wrist graphs – flexion/extension, radial/ulnar deviation and rotation.

Please also explore the lead wrist data graphs below the video.

Here are some notes from the presentation.

The terminology used:

  • Flexion (-)/Extension (+) (green line) = Bowing/Cupping of the lead wrist
  • Radial(+)/Ulnar (-) deviation (blue line) = Cocking/Uncocking of the lead wrist
  • Rotation (purple line) = Global Rotation relative to address, Closing club face (+) /Opening club face (-)

Tour Player Lead Wrist Data from the Presentation

Here is data from a European Tour player (6iron) which Brian analyzes during his presentation. Pay your attention to the graphs rather than just the tile numbers at address, top and impact.

It is the motion and not just the position that matters in the golf swing.

Below you can also see the tile numbers for flexion/extension, radial/ulnar deviation and rotation amount and speed.
