How to Easily Generate Backspin with Your Wedges using HackMotion (Video by Swing Quest)

Backspin helps you control your approach shots to the green and makes you a much better short game player. However, there are a lot of factors that play into how much backspin you can get on a golf ball.

Your golf club, the ball, and especially your wrist angle position will impact the amount of backspin you get on the golf ball.

Let’s look at how HackMotion can help you get more backspin on your golf ball.

Wrist Hinge and Settle in Front of Chest (Not to Steep or Shallow)

To put backspin on the ball, you must have the proper angle of attack. If the club gets into a position that is too shallow, you won’t have enough of a downward strike to spin the ball back when it lands.

A more steep golf swing can help generate backspin, but it could cause you to lose distance, hit a shot that travels left to right, and decrease your consistency in your game.

The ideal opposition here is to have your wrist hinge occur and then settle in front of the chest. Don’t let the club get too far behind you or too far in front of you.

Lead Wrist in Flexion (Bowing)

The lead wrist in the golf swing tends to get too extended. Most amateur golfers create this extension unknowingly because there is no way to see the position of the club behind you.

That’s where HackMotion comes in.

If you want backspin on your shots, keep your lead wrist in a more flexed position throughout the swing. The flexing will improve your ball striking and allow you to rotate through impact with more speed.

Wear your HackMotion and use audio feedback to check your position throughout your swing. However, when trying to increase backspin, it’s especially important to check the position at the top and again at impact.

Feel Flexion Maintained Through Impact

Once you get to this flexed position at the top of your swing, you will need to maintain it through impact to get backspin on your shots.

One of the great things about HackMotion is that you can also wear it during your short game practice. Short game tends to be an area where players need to work on increasing backspin.

Although the swing is shorter, HackMotion can still ensure your wrists are in the right position and, most importantly, that you are flexed through the impact position.
