Here is TRAIL wrist data analysis of a tour player’s mid-iron swing. This is quite typical tour player pattern so it can serve as good learning material. Pay special attention to how extension gets released and how the player starts supinating before impact, around shaft parallel.

  1. Starts with extended trail wrist at address, +21 degrees
  2. Adds 43 degrees of trail wrist extension during the backswing and reaches 64 degrees at the top
  3. During downswing, before shaft parallel adds a bit more extension, loading of the trail wrist
  4. Release of extension through impact, but still 39 degrees extended at impact

  1. Starts with unhinged trail wrist at address, -24 degrees
  2. Adds 29 degrees trail wrist hinge during the backswing and reaches +5 degrees radial deviation at the top
  3. During downswing, before shaft parallel starts ulnar deviation of the trail wrist
  4. Impact position is similar to address, slightly more ulnar deviation -28 degrees

HackMotion sensor contains gyroscope which measures rotation of the lead wrist in global coordinate system (local coordinate system would measure only wrist to elbow relationship – pronation/supination).

This rotation metric can also be called “global rotation” as opposed to “relative rotation” of the wrist. Since body rotation also rotates the wrist it will also be measured as part of this “global rotation”.

  2. Slight rotation in pronation direction before top of the backswing
  3. During downswing starts rotation in supination direction
  4. Around shaft parallel before impact starts to rotate in pronation direction and keeps rotating through impact
